Perils for Pedestrians Episode 144

 Woodrow Wilson Bike Trail
The new span of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge includes a bike trail. The bridge carries I-95 over the Potomac River, connecting Alexandria, Virginia, with Prince George's County, Maryland. The original bridge, opened in 1961, had no provision for pedestrians and bicyclists. However, in the intervening decades planners became more aware of the importance of including pedestrians and bicyclists when designing facilities like this.

  • We meet the Maryland Director of Bicycle and Pedestrian Access.

  • We learn about The Purple Line in suburban Maryland.
